What were Samoyeds originally bred for?
Samoyeds have a long history as hardworking companions of the Samoyedic people of Siberia. These versatile dogs were originally bred to herd reindeer, pull sledges, hunt, and help their owners survive the harsh Arctic climate.
Known as Bjelkier, meaning “white dog that breeds white,” these loyal dogs were deeply trusted and treated as part of the family. They often slept alongside their owners in traditional tents called chooms, helping keep everyone warm during freezing Arctic nights.
According to legend, parents would even leave their children and belongings under the watchful care of a Samoyed while they were away hunting.

Common health problems
Samoyeds are generally healthy dogs, but like all breeds, they can be prone to certain health issues. Responsible breeders screen their dogs for conditions such as hip dysplasia, eye problems, and heart disorders to help produce healthy puppies.
Regular dental care, including brushing your Samoyed’s teeth with dog-safe toothpaste, is important for maintaining good oral health.
